There’s something about the cool crisp autumn air that makes you want apples. It could also be all the apple scented things everywhere you go, the twenty thousand different kinds of apples at the grocery store now, or pictures of apples in every marketing thing you see. Well the damn marketing worked because I made an apple cocktail. The proof is in the pudding, or should I say applesauce, that advertising works. Get something in front of people enough and they’ll probably buy it. So today, I present to you the Autumn Swirl cocktail (aka Whiskey Apple Swirl). It’s a simple but damn impressive cocktail that you can wow your friends and coworkers with. Even Karen.   I made two slight variations. Here are both options.   Recipe 1: This one is slightly fruity and sweeter.   2oz Crown Royal Whisky 3oz pressed apple juice (the one in the refrigerated aisle that’s slightly cloudy) 1.5 oz ginger beer ¼ tsp pearl decorating dust (available in the cake decorating section of the craft store) Apple slices for garnish   Instructions: Mix the whisky, apple juice, and pearl dust in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a lowball glass with ice. This is where things get pretty. As you pour the mix into the other glass the pearl dust creates the iridescent “swirl” that the drink is named for. Top the drink with ginger beer and gently stir it in. One, to incorporate it and two, it’s just fun to see the swirls. Slice the apple into thin slices. If you cut it at the “equator” you’ll get nice round slices with the seeds in the middle. Make a cut from the outside to the middle on one side. Slide onto the glass and BAM! Watch your friends sip your concoction in awe of your cocktail making prowess.     Recipe 2: This one is more similar to a whisky ginger but with a slight appley essence.   2oz Crown Royal Whisky 3oz ginger beer 1.5 oz pressed apple juice (the one in the refrigerated aisle that’s slightly cloudy) ¼ tsp pearl decorating dust (available in the cake decorating section of the craft store) Apple slices for garnish   Instructions are same as above.   This is a great cocktail for people that awkwardly sip and stare into their drinks as they absentmindedly swirl them around trying to look like they are following along with the conversation. Now they’ll just look like they are mesmerized by their drink.
